Report on the .pl domain name market for Q3 2020

The highest renewal rate in 12 years, increase in the number of domain names

At the end of September 2020, in the .pl domain registry there were 2 467 851 names, active in DNS, by 12 290 more than at the end of the previous quarter. The renewal rate maintained the upward trend of the previous quarter and amounted to 67.13%. This is the highest result since 2008.

In comparison with the previous quarter, the number of .pl domain name registrants also increased by almost 11.5 thousand. At the end of the third quarter there were 1 089 053.

In the discussed period, the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the national .pl domain was celebrated. In July 1990, the organisation managing at that time the top level domains, IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority), made an entry of the .pl designation for the country code domain, administratively assigned to Poland.

In September, 17 years passed since NASK introduced the possibility of registering domain names containing national diacritics, the so-called IDNs. The article, entitled Domain names "with tails", was devoted to this subject.
