REQUIREMENTS REGARDING DOMAIN NAMES

  1. What domain names are administered by NASK?

    NASK administers the ".pl" country code domain and an array of second level domains (functional domain names and regional domain names). [top]

  2. What domain names are possible to register?

    Domain name may be registered, provided that it is available - the domain name has the status 'is available for registration' after querying the WHOIS database available at www.dns.pl.
    Registration of a domain name may be refused, based on the Domain Names Regulations as of 18 December 2006 (article 6). [top]

  3. What syntax of the domain name is acceptable?

    Domain name may consist exclusively of the following characters: Latin alphabet letters, digits and mark "-". The mark "-" can neither be placed at the beginning of the domain name, nor at the end thereof, nor on the 3rd and 4th position within the domain name simultaneously (with the exception of domain names with "xn--" prefix). The domain name may consist up to 63 characters in total - it applies to every single name in every single domain, regardless of the level/extension, for example: .pl, .com.pl.[top]

  4. Does the size of letters in the domain name make difference?

    The size of letters used in the domain name is of no significance for the maintenance of the domain name. [top]

  5. Are the names such as "www", "http", "ftp" feasible to be registered as a domain name?

    There is no possibility to register names reserved for services provided via the Internet: ldap, mailto, news, sip, tel, www, ftp, http, https. [top]

  6. Who is authorized to register the names of administrative units as the domain names?

    The names of Polish administrative units under the domain name ".pl" may only be registered by relevant administrative units or the local government. The detailed list of names of Polish administrative units is specified in the Regulation of the Council of Ministers of June 29, 2010, (Monitor Polski no. 48/2010 item 654).   7. Is it possible to change the domain name, once registered?

    There is no possibility to change the existing domain name. [top]

  8. How to register the Internationalized Domain Name (domain names that contain national diacritical characters, e.g.: ą, ć, ę, ó, ż, ź and others)?

    The multi-language domain name (called also IDN Internationalized Domain Name) defines the domain name that contains national diacritical characters specific for a particular language (e.g.: dyżurnet.pl). IDN may appear in two forms: the first one, where Unicode is used and the second one - encoded to ASCII (e.g.: xn--dyurnet-xwb.pl.).
    NASK offers the possibility to register the ASCII form of IDN (the one that starts with xn--) only.

HOW TO SUBMIT THE TENDER FOR THE REGISTRATION OF A DOMAIN NAME AVAILABLE AT WWW.DNS.PL?

  1. How to check if the domain name is free to register before the Application is being submitted?

    To check if the domain name is available for registration use the domain browser at the main page. [top]

  2. What is the difference between the Tender submitted directly to NASK and through the Partner?

    The Tenderer, who submits the Tender to NASK, is entering into the agreement including the Maintenance of the Domain Name as well as the Administrative and Technical Service.
    The Agreement entered into through a Partner shall include only the Maintenance of the Domain Name, and NASK services on the Administrative and Technical Service shall be regulated in a separate agreement to be entered into between NASK and the Partner.

  3. What should be done to submit the Tender to NASK?

    Please follow the steps below:

    • submit the electronic Tender for entering into the Agreement for the Domain Name Maintenance and Administrative and Technical Service via www.dns.pl and prepare the printable written form of the Tender;
    • print out the Application in writing with the ID number included;
    • sign the Application legibly by persons authorized to represent the Tenderer (the company seal shall be advisable if the Tenderer runs a business);
    • deliver the Tender in writing to NASK within seven days from the date the electronic application has been submitted on-line. The Tender may be delivered to NASK by post to the address NASK, ul. Wąwozowa 18, 02-796 Warszawa, Poland or by fax no +48 22 380 83 01.

      Notice that the applications in writing shall not be considered if they:
      • do not include the ID number;
      • are delivered to NASK after the dead-line;
      • are delivered to the incorrect fax number.

      Notice that the procedure of .pl domain name registration starts automatically, right after the electronic Tender is submitted on-line. NASK is obliged to inform about the verification within five workdays from the date, the Tender was received by post or fax. [top]

  4. How to fill in the Tender for the registration of a domain name available at www.dns.pl?

    Tender, available at www.dns.pl, should be completed and submitted in accordance with the description of its individual fields by entering data as requested. The data entered in every step of the electronic Tender, submitted on-line, has to be confirmed by the Tenderer with clicking the "submit" button (available at the bottom of the web-page). If the registration system detects lack of data or any errors (e.g. wrong pattern of VAT), the appropriate message shall be displayed. It is possible to correct or change the data entered already while the electronic Tender is being submitted on-line. Once the electronic Tender is completed at the sixth step and finalized, the printed Tender, in writing, shall be delivered to NASK via fax or by post in seven days.

    Notice that it is advisable to save the printable version of the Tender on your local HDD.

  5. Is it necessary to use WWW in front of the domain name while the Tender is being filled in?

    No, WWW is reserved for the name of the service provided via Internet only. [top]

  6. How many domain names may be submitted with one Tender applied on-line?

    If the entire subscriber's data, technical supervisor's data and justification are the same for every domain name, the single Tender for registration may contain up to six domain names. Following domain names should be separated by commas. [top]

  7. Are the details of DNS servers necessary to submit the Tender on-line?

    Yes, it is essential. To register the .pl domain name at NASK, one shall provide the data of at least two DNS servers (name servers): their names and IP numbers (if the name of DNS server includes the domain name that is being registered). The technical support of DNS service is usually provided by the Internet Service Provider (ISP). At this moment, the configured DNS servers, submitted in the Tender, are recommended by NASK. [top]

  8. What do the following messages mean: "incorrect name server", "incorrect syntax of the domain name", "name server does not exist"?

    INCORRECT NAME SERVER - the given server does not work as the name server.

    INCORRECT SYNTAX OF THE DOMAIN NAME - the domain name includes prohibited characters or belongs to the zone not operated by NASK (e.g. .com, art.pl). The allowed characters are: (0-9, a-z, "-"), the size of the letters does not matter.

    NAME SERVER DOES NOT EXIST - the given DNS is not reachable at the moment, the electronic Tender is being submitted (has no A record configured). [top]

  9. Is it necessary to print out and sign the Tender? Who should sign the Tender before the document is sent to NASK?

    Before the printed Tender is sent to NASK, it has to be signed legibly by Authorized Signatories of the Tenderer. If the Tenderer (future domain name subscriber) runs a business, the company seal is advisable. NASK may request the Tenderer to deliver additional documents concerning the data included in the Tender.[top]

  10. Is it possible to change the data submitted in the Tender?

    There is a possibility to correct the data entered in the electronic Tender by returning to previous steps, as long as the Tender is not finally accepted on the 6th step.
    Once the electronic Tender is printable and the ID number is sent via e-mail to the contact e-mail addresses submitted in the Tender, not all data included in the electronic Tender may be modified. PROCEDURE OF VERIFICATION OF THE TENDER FOR THE REGISTRATION OF THE DOMAIN NAME, APPLIED FOR NASK

  1. How long does the verification of the Tender take?

    Five workdays from the date of receipt of the printed Tender. [top]

  2. What should be done if there is a delay in the registration process?

    The e-mail concerning the delay in the registration process should be delivered to NASK at: info@dns.pl. The ID number of the application needs to be included. Please do not send any text or files as the attachment to the e-mail correspondence (they shall not be considered). [top]

  3. How much does the registration of a domain name, operated by NASK, cost?

    The Agreement is entered into for an unlimited period of time. The first and subsequent net fees for one-year (12 months) periods of Administrative and Technical Service are:

    • regional domain name: 50 PLN,
    • functional domain name: 150 PLN,
    • general domain name: 200 PLN,

    (the fees shall be increased by the value added tax).

DEFINITIONS

Administrative and Technical Service
Administrative and Technical Service is a set of actions, performed by NASK, necessary for the Maintenance of the Domain Name. The actions include, in particular, maintenance of data transferred by the Subscriber and making data processing systems available. NASK shall provide the Administrative and Technical Service for the Subscriber or for the Partner. [top]

Tenderer
Tenderer is an entity or natural person who has submitted a tender directly to NASK or through a Partner in order to enter into the Agreement. [top]

Tender
Tender is an offer to enter into the Agreement for the Domain Name Maintenance and Technical Service, which specifies necessary data, ie: domain name, Tenderer's data, name servers. website. [top]

Partner
Partner is an entity bound with NASK by a co-operation agreement on the Administrative and Technical Service that has been put on an up-to-date list of Partners included at NASK website. [top]

Registration
Acceptance of the Tender for entering into the Agreement for the Domain Name Maintenance and Administrative and Technical Service submitted directly to NASK or through a Partner. After the registration NASK provides the Maintenance of the Domain Name for the Subscriber. [top]

Agreement
Agreement is an agreement between NASK and the Subscriber, including the Maintenance of the Domain Name as well as the Administrative and Technical Service. The Agreement entered into through a Partner shall include only the Maintenance of the Domain Name, and NASK services on the Administrative and Technical Service shall be regulated in a separate agreement to be entered into between NASK and the Partner. Maintenance of the Domain Name
Maintenance of the Domain Name makes it possible for the Internet users to use the data specified by the Subscriber, necessary for Internet communication, stored in the memory of a device intended for that purpose by NASK. The usage follows as a response to queries, received by this device, which come from Internet users. [top]
